Fabworks Order Guide
A simple guide to walk you through the process of placing an order on Fabworks!
Step 1: Exporting
The first step for every Fabworks order is exporting all of your parts from your CAD package of choice. The Fabworks interface supports STEP, STP, and DXF files, however, STEP is the recommended file type. If you are stuck on this step consider checking out our STEP file export guides for Onshape, and Fusion360.
Step 2: Uploading
Head to the Fabworks Laser Cutting Service page and simply drag your file(s) into the upload box. Once your first file is done uploading you will be redirected to the quoting page, where an order summary and list of all your parts can be found. You can continue uploading more parts or continue to the next step.
Step 3: Configure Your Parts
Material / Thickness
Choosing the material and the thickness of the material is one of the most important steps of the process as it will have the largest effect on the overall performance of the part. Consider taking a look at our material guide if you are unsure what material would be the best for your part.
Bending
Configuring bending in Fabworks is super easy when importing STEP files since the bending directions and angles are automatically configured.
Hole Operations
Fabworks offers the following hole operations
- Tapping
- Hardware
- PEM Nuts
- Countersinking
In the menu, you can apply operations to either a specific hole on the part or every hole of a specific size. Fabworks will automatically resize holes to the correct size for the specified operation.
Finishing
The standard finish for Fabworks parts is “Deburred”. Deburring is offered for free, but if you would like a potentially shorter lead time you can opt for “No Deburring” instead. In addition to deburring Fabworks offers powder coating in a variety of colors. For more information about powder coating your parts look at our powder coating guide!
Step 4: Review
Take a few minutes to double check all of the parts in your Fabworks order to make sure you have the correct configurations and order quantities. If you are looking to save some money on your Fabworks parts consider ordering in higher quantities to reduce the cost per part.
Step 5: Place your order!
After you have finished preparing, and double-checked your order you can head to the checkout to place your order! All Free Shipping orders ship via UPS Ground or LTL freight. Fabworks also offers 2-Day air and Overnight shipping options for select orders.
